GTA VI Launch: What’s Confirmed So Far

As of October 26, 2026, Grand Theft Auto VI is set to launch November 19, 2026. Rockstar Games released the official launch trailer on October 15, 2026, and Xbox promoted it again on October 23, as the marketing push heads into a November 19 release. With rumors everywhere, here is a clean list of what Rockstar and its parent company Take-Two have actually confirmed, and what is still unknown.

The confirmed basics

According to Take-Two’s pre-order announcement:

  • Release date: November 19, 2026.
  • Platforms: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
  • Launch price: $79.99.
  • Ultimate Edition price: $99.99, with extra vehicles, weapons, apparel and in-game content.
  • Preloading: Digital pre-order customers can start preloading on November 12, 2026.
  • Physical copies: Available starting November 12 with a download code inside the box, to support preloading.
  • Pre-order bonus: All pre-orders and purchases before November 20 include the Vintage Vice City Pack. Digital pre-orders also get a free month of GTA+.
  • Where to buy: PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Rockstar Games Store, and other retailers.

Rockstar’s earlier Newswire post set the November 19, 2026 date after the game’s previous delays.

The launch trailer

GameSpot reported that Rockstar published the launch trailer on October 15. Per GameSpot:

  • It features a new song, “Flower in a Hurricane,” by Justice featuring Tame Impala, SZA, and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. Justice also composed the game’s original score.
  • The trailer shows more of Vice City and the two leads, Jason and Lucia.
  • It was captured on a base PS5 and carries PlayStation branding as part of a Sony and Rockstar co-marketing deal.

On October 23, Xbox Wire also posted the launch trailer, inviting players to “Explore Leonida Before the Game Arrives November 19.”

The setting and story

Take-Two’s release describes the premise: Jason and Lucia, in Vice City, USA, find themselves “on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida.” Leonida is the series’ fictional take on Florida.

What is still unknown

  • PC version: Take-Two’s announcement lists only PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. GameSpot says a PC release is “expected in early 2027,” but an official PC date is TBD.
  • ESRB rating: Take-Two’s June release said the game was “not yet rated.” Its final rating is TBD in the sources we reviewed.
  • GTA Online for GTA VI: Launch timing and details are TBD in official materials we reviewed.
  • File size and performance modes: TBD.

Why it matters

It is a test of the $80 game. At $79.99, GTA VI is a high-profile test of whether players will pay $80 for a new release. If it sells as expected, other publishers will have cover to raise prices too. If buyers push back, that ceiling may hold for a while.

It could lift the whole industry. GamesBeat reported that a Drake Star Partners report expects GTA VI’s November 19 launch “likely to lift sentiment across publishes, platforms and the wider gaming ecosystem.” In a year marked by layoffs and studio closures, a massive hit could boost console sales and attention for gaming broadly, even if Take-Two and Rockstar capture most of the revenue directly.

Console-first launches still matter. Launching on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S without a confirmed PC date keeps the spotlight on console hardware during the holiday shopping season.

Plan your download. With preloading opening November 12, digital buyers can avoid a launch-day bandwidth crunch. Physical buyers should note the box includes a download code, so plan for a download either way.

Quick checklist before November 19

  • Confirm your pre-order is digital if you want to preload on November 12.
  • Free up storage on your console. Exact install size: TBD.
  • Buy before November 20 if you want the Vintage Vice City Pack.
  • If you play on PC, wait for an official announcement before buying any “PC” listing.

The bottom line

GTA VI is locked for November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, at $79.99 or $99.99, with preloading a week earlier. Everything else, including a PC date and final rating, is still waiting on official word. After more than a decade of development, the biggest launch of the year is nearly here.
